Lesson 1: Counselling Skills Part 1
In this lesson you will start to develop knowledge of basic skills used in counselling and how these skills are applied to the counselling process.
This lesson covers listening and bonding, Reflection techniques, questioning techniques, interview techniques, changing beliefs, finding solutions together and ending counselling
Lesson 2: Counselling Skills Part 2
In this lesson you will learn skills to guide counselling sessions face to face and over the phone. You will learn to help clients to focus on dealing with present crises and offer problem solving techniques related to aggression, depression, grief and loss, and suicide.
Lesson 3: Counselling Techniques
In this lesson you will develop your understanding of most of the major theoretical approaches to counselling and their application to the counselling process. Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Humanistic/existential approach, Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy, Behavioural therapy and Solution-based counselling.
Lesson 4: Introduction to Psychology
In this lesson you will develop your understanding of human psychology and personality, as a basis for understanding human behaviour.
You will gain an understanding of the nature and scope of psychology, the neurological basis of behaviour, the environmental effects on behaviour, and some ways humans perceive consciousness and perception.
Lesson 5: Professional Practice in Counselling
In this lesson you will develop an understanding of appropriate practices and procedures within counselling.
This lesson covers what is counselling, the ethics and confidentiality considerations, as well as an understanding of how the personality of individuals develop, their emotions, and behaviours.
Lesson 6: Family Counselling
In this lesson you will develop an appreciation of appropriate practices and procedures within counselling that are related to family counselling.
You will learn about the nature and scope of families, family dynamics and history, how to identify family problems and support structures. You will also gain an understanding about family therapy approach, conducting an initial interview and planning counselling solutions to family problems.
Lesson 7: Crisis Counselling
This lesson is about counselling crisis situations with clients. You will learn about the ethical, professional and legal issues present during crisis counselling, the dangers and risks involved, as well as effective interventions.
You become familiar with how crisis situations develop, about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), violence and sexual assault and crisis related to drugs and addictions.
Lesson 8: Grief Counselling
This lesson is focused on the grief process. You will become familiar with the stages of grief, grief in children and adolescents and how individuals adjust to bereavement. You will also learn about abnormal grief, long-term grief and tools to prepare clients for grief and bereavement.
