Module 1 – Compliance at the Workplace

Lesson 1: Competition and Consumer Law

In this module, you will learn about the Australian Competition and Consumer Act, the Australian Consumer Law and the unfair consumer practices with the penalties imposed when found guilty. You will understand how consumers are protected and about the rules against anti-competitive behaviours that protect all businesses, as well as the relevant authorities that enforce the Australian Consumer Law, their power and responsibility.

Lesson 2: Equal Employment Opportunity

It is essential to understand the workplace laws and rights of all individuals, this is why we have made a module where you can learn about the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws and identify discrimination practices based on inequality of gender, age, race, sex and disability. You will also learn to identify behaviours of bullying and sexual harassment and how to act in accordance with the laws and when they have been breached.

Lesson 3: Legislation and Laws

To support the knowledge of the rights of workers, this module provides information about federal laws that protect against unfair work practices and discrimination in the workplace. It describes the grounds of discrimination that the federal laws cover and describe the scope and meaning of the state and territory laws.

Lesson 4: Managing WHS Risks

In this module you will learn how to identify risks at your workplace, how to carry out the risk assessment process and how to implement appropriate measures to control risks. You will also learn the significance of keeping records of the risk management process, identify workplace hazards/risks, and identify the steps to manage these.

Lesson 5: Privacy Act

To help all individuals understand how the Australian Privacy Act protects our personal information and how to handle different types of personal information, we have made this module that lists the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) that outline how you can access, use and disclose personal information. You will also learn the obligations and exceptions of collecting and storing personal information. It also explains what personal information is protected under the Privacy Act regulation, how to identify the responsibilities of a Privacy Officer and to manage electronic communications in accordance with the Spam Act and Privacy Act.

Lesson 6: Work Health and Safety

This module will help you learn about the Work Health and Safety Act, the significance of WHS laws to promote work safety and make you aware of the risk management practices eliminating workplace hazards and risks. You will also learn about emergency procedures and resources that must be available to all workers, specifically, to workers that had an accident at the workplace.

Lesson 7: Bullying and Harassment

Learn about preventing and handling bullying cases at work with this module. Workplace bullying is acknowledged as a health and safety risk, and therefore, this module includes examples of behaviours that are considered bullying and harassment at the workplace. It also explains some of the causes bullying, how to respond and get help, and ways to prevent bullying occurring in the workplace. Understanding the reasons for bullying, how it impacts the victims, and the workplace environment is a way to maintain a safe place to work.
